Ingredients
- 2 large cucumbers, very thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3 tablespoons cold water
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sweet Hungarian paprika (optional)
- 2–3 tablespoons sour cream (optional, for creamy version)
Instructions
- Thinly slice the cucumbers (use a knife or mandoline).
- Place in a bowl, sprinkle with salt, and let sit for 15–20 minutes to release excess liquid.
- Gently squeeze out the extra water.
- In a small bowl, mix vinegar, sugar, water, garlic, and black pepper until sugar dissolves.
- Pour dressing over cucumbers and mix well.
- Sprinkle with paprika if desired.
- For a creamy version, stir in sour cream before serving.
- Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Serve cold as a refreshing side dish with grilled meats or goulash.
