Ingredients
- 400 g (14 oz) wide egg noodles (or square pasta)
- 600 g (1½ lbs) white cabbage, finely shredded
- 2 tablespoons oil or lard
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt to taste
- ½ teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
Instructions
- Cook noodles in salted boiling water according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat oil or lard in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add sugar and let it caramelize lightly (golden brown).
- Add shredded cabbage and stir well to coat with caramelized sugar.
- Cook on medium heat for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage becomes soft and slightly browned.
- Season generously with salt and black pepper.
- Add cooked noodles to the cabbage and mix thoroughly.
- Cook together for another 2–3 minutes.
Serve hot.
Can be served as a main dish or side. Some people enjoy it slightly sweet; others prefer it more savory with extra pepper.
