Töltött Káposzta 🇭🇺
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb (450 g) ground pork (or beef/pork mix)
- ½ cup rice, uncooked
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 cups tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
- 2–3 cups sauerkraut (optional, for traditional flavor)
Directions
- Core the cabbage and carefully separate the leaves. Blanch leaves in boiling water 2–3 minutes until pliable. Drain and cool.
- In a bowl, mix ground meat, rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Place a spoonful of filling on each cabbage leaf and roll, tucking in the sides.
- Layer some tomato sauce (and sauerkraut if using) at the bottom of a large pot.
- Arrange cabbage rolls in the pot, seam side down. Pour remaining tomato sauce over the top.
- Cover and simmer gently 60–75 minutes until cabbage is tender and filling is cooked.
Serve warm, often with a dollop of sour cream.
