Ingredients
- 2 large cucumbers, thinly sliced
- 1 small red onion, very thinly sliced (optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3 tablespoons cold water
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sweet Hungarian paprika (optional)
- 2 tablespoons sour cream (optional, for creamy version)
Instructions
- Slice the cucumbers very thin (using a knife or mandoline).
- Place in a bowl, sprinkle with salt, and let sit for 15–20 minutes to release excess water.
- Gently squeeze out excess liquid from the cucumbers.
- In a small bowl, mix vinegar, sugar, water, garlic, and black pepper until sugar dissolves.
- Pour dressing over cucumbers and add sliced onion if using. Mix well.
- Sprinkle with paprika if desired.
- For a creamy version, stir in sour cream before serving.
- Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.
