Hungarian Homemade Bread (Házi Kenyér)
Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose or bread flour
- 10 g salt
- 7 g dry yeast
- 300 ml lukewarm water
- 1 tablespoon oil (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and dry yeast.
- Add lukewarm water (and oil if using) and mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Shape the dough into a loaf.
- Place in a greased baking dish or on a tray.
- Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 220°C / 430°F.
- Score the top of the bread with a sharp knife.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Let cool on a rack before slicing.
