Ingredients
- 2 tbsp lard or oil
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- ½ tsp caraway seeds
- 1 lb (450 g) beef chuck, cubed
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp hot paprika (optional)
- 8–9 cups water or beef broth
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 potatoes, diced
Optional csipetke:
- 1 egg
- ½ cup flour
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Heat lard or oil; cook onions until soft.
- Remove from heat, stir in paprika and caraway.
- Add beef, garlic, tomato, pepper, tomato paste, salt, pepper, and hot paprika.
- Add water/broth, bring to boil.
- Simmer covered 60–75 minutes.
- Add carrots and potatoes; cook 20–25 minutes.
- Add csipetke and cook 5–7 minutes until done.
