🇭🇺 Hungarian Fried Bread – Lángos

Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾–1 cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Oil for frying

Optional Toppings:

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (mixed with 2 tbsp water)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup grated cheese

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Add yeast mixture and 1 tablespoon oil. Knead into soft dough. Let rise 1 hour.
  3. Divide dough into 4–6 pieces. Flatten into rounds about ½ inch thick.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan (350°F / 175°C). Fry dough 1–2 minutes per side until golden.
  5. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Brush with garlic water while warm. Top with sour cream and grated cheese if desired.
